OPENING FILM

We are pleased to announce the official opening film of the GUERNSEY FILM FEST 2023 - NIGHTSIREN (Světlono), a Slovakian Folk Horror Film by Tereza Nvotová.

Story -
A young woman returns to her native mountain village, searching for answers about her troubled childhood, but as she tries to uncover the truth, ancient superstitions lead the villagers to accuse her of witchcraft and murder.

Director's Statement
-
Nightsiren seeks to dispel the myths and conventions surrounding womanhood and addresses the resurgence of ancient beliefs in the modern day with misogyny, xenophobia and mass hysteria still prevailing. Even though women are no longer being burned at the stake, they’re still targeted for their sexuality, emotionality, and reproductive choices. Only the label has changed, from "witch" to "slut". Nightsiren talks about the value of freedom if we refuse to go down the conventional path.

SARK BACK ON THE BIG SCREEN!

Travel back in time to 1951 when the film APPOINTMENT WITH VENUS was released. After 72 years experience Sark back on the big screen. Based on the novel by Jerrard Tickell. Fun fact: Although Sark doesn't allow motorised traffic. The filmmakers were allowed one Land Rover and trailer to transport their equipment.
